Drury Hills Project
This project was started in 2007, but is yet to be completed. The property is sited on the westly face of the ancient volcanic fields of the Drury Hills, South Auckland. The clients brief was fairly open in that they wanted to develop the property into gardens, with the only stipulation being the inclusion of a pool. Due to the site considerations - massive boulders (some the size of our 20 ton digger and larger! as some of the initial images show) just about everywhere you excavated and the fact i wanted the pool close to the house as the clients had a young family, i designed the pool to wrap around the edge of the house site, with an infinity edge to maximise the visual effect. The concept for the property consisted of a series of areas to be connected by a serpentine crushed limestone pathway bisected with timber boardwalks and pergola covered stepping stone pathways and pads, to be functional, yet providing a journey as one traversed through the garden. As this project has only had its initial hard landscaping stages completed, the site still feels very bare, but the pool has been a standout and onced the different planting stages are completed, this will become a wonderful place surronded by limitless views.
