"Alex Schanzer Landscape Designer was like a breath of fresh air to us, when we were considering what to do with our new garden. We had just moved from a large home and extensive garden close to the bush, in Silverstream, in Upper Hutt ,Wellington - to a town house on a small section in Karaka Lakes, South Auckland. Fortunately our daughter and son inlaw were also in the midst of a landscaping project and we were able to see the outstanding design, construction and planting that Alex was doing for them.
Alex was delightful to work with and quickly came up with a concept plan which we loved, based on our wish list of a subtropical / native garden. Due to work commitments we could not be as 'hands on' involved in the plan implementation as we had intended, so Alex was more than happy to come and do all of this for us. He provided the most beautiful and healthy plants, the bromeliads in particular which came from his own nursery, were wonderful. I have never seen such quality of plants in any of the nurseries i have been to.
Our garden is lush and a joy to be in. I am so impressed with our NZ natives and how they can bring such a variety of shapes, colour and texture to the garden, which i know will only get better as it grows.

"A number of years ago we purchased a property in Karaka and with it, inherited a large, unruly and unplanned garden with little or no appeal. Having always wanted a properly designed garden to suit the character of the residence, we decided to employ a professional designer. Alex's advertisement caught our eye and contact was made. After a site inspection, Alex returned with his concept, immediately impressing us with his excellent ideas and enthusiasm. Thus began the first stage of an ongoing project carried out over a number of years, involving many hours of hard work and effort by Alex and his team. The end result is a garden environment we are most proud of and that is always admired by all who see it.
We have always been very happy with both the concepts and implementation of the hard and soft landscpaing works, carried out by Alex. "Alex, we love your work!
When we bought our beautiful but harsh beachfront section, we had no idea where to begin. All my past gardening experience had been on inland properties - none of it any use in these wild coastal conditions of our new property. Another important criteria for the garden was to be easy care - we wanted a beachside place that we could enjoy but not be a slave to.
You succeeded beyond my wildest dreams. The entire design and planting concept is perfect. We love our garden. It fits the landscape perfectly and i spend the equivalent of about one day a year keeping it smart and well tended.
Also your recommendation to use Jeff Lochart's sculpture to enhance the boring garage wall, was an inspiration. The blending of planting and sculpture works brillantly. Keep up the good work. We recommend you to all our friends!"

"Alex came to see the property and we had a general discussion to get an overview on what we would like to accomplish. Having got a feel for the property, Alex spent time developing planting concepts and returned to discuss these with us - a general agreement with the initial plans was made and so the partnership was formed.
Our property underwent substantial development in planting, incorporating site specific sculptural pieces, irrigation and track establishment and now is a vastly different property to that which Alex was introduced. By no means is our landscaping developmet complete and we hope to engage Alex again in the future, when we proceed with this.
Our working relationship with Alex has always been first class and he has very much worked with us, on the development of the property, with his ideas being innovative but also leading to a functional, low maintenance garden. His honesty and integrity is beyond reproach and we look forward to working with him more in the future."

"We gave Alex free reign and the outcome was that he created a lifetime dream come true garden! We particularly fell in love with the way the garden changes through the day as it captures the sun and shadows in different corners of the natural flowing paths. As a bonus it also bought us a huge number of birds with whom we now share our lives. Alex incorporated many South African aloes with NZ natives to give us a sense of belonging and history and making us feel very much at home, being South African immigrants. We pride ourselves in our garden, where the plants and shapes create a symphony of moods, colour and life!
